Established in September 2018, Pax Dollar operates as a stablecoin secured by flat collateral. Designed to mitigate price volatility, stablecoins like Pax Dollar aim to stabilize their value relative to a specific stable asset or asset basket.

Stablecoins can maintain pegs to cryptocurrencies, fiat currencies, or even commodities. Pax Dollar, specifically, provides the benefit of conducting blockchain asset transactions with reduced price volatility. The Pax Dollar tokens (USDP) are issued as ERC-20 tokens on the Ethereum blockchain and are backed 1:1 by USD reserves held in Paxos-owned US bank accounts.
